I would be remiss if I didn’t post a blog concerning an important birthday in the history of the American National Parks System. This past week, March 2, marked the 113th birthday of Mount Rainier National Park. It was designated the country’s 5th national park in 1899 by President William McKinley. I consider myself blessed to live close to this beautiful park with all its splendor along with the titan itself, Mount Rainier, taking up a good portion of the horizon from where I stand. It’s a quiet time for the park during the long winter, and many days of grey skies cover the mountain from view. But boy, when the sun lights up the sky and the giant lifts its head above the clouds, my eyes always are drawn to its majestic splendor! Happy Birthday Mount Rainier National Park!
